It might be that you need to explicitly select the analog device for use by RTAV. Does your client end point have any other microphones connected (eg built into a webcam or a usb headset (that is connected but not being used?) If thats working, then thats a good start. Lets start with the client end point - can you open sound recorder and check that on the win8 machine that you can record audio correctly and it plays back with a sensible volume?
